Modern Day American Slaves

Clock in and get to work,
that’s the only value we can birth.
In a society run by greed,
money seems to be the only seed.
Planted into us after birth,
in hopes we just grow up to work.

Not for my dreams,
not for yours,
but the dreams
on some company’s whiteboard.

They often say we’re family,
but I don’t see how that’s true.
When companies bow to the dollar,
who the hell are you?

“You’re fired.”
“I quit.”
Replaceable,
that’s what we don’t get.

Modern day American slaves,
being replaced day after day.
